After more than two years of uncertainty, the remains of Penni Whiteside have been found buried in a backyard in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina—54-year-old Sheridan Dirk Fogle, suspect has been arrested and charged with her murder.
Whiteside, 51 at the time of her disappearance in May 2022, was last seen living with Fogle at a home on 1st Avenue South. Neighbors grew suspicious after she vanished, believing she might be buried under a firepit at the property.
Acting on these concerns, Myrtle Beach Police obtained a search warrant. On June 12, 2024, they made a grim discovery—Whiteside’s remains were buried on the property. The specifics of how she died remain undisclosed.
Fogle was apprehended on August 29, 2024, in Orangeburg, South Carolina.
In their statement, police called her death a “tragic loss of life” and a “senseless act of violence.” They urged the public to keep her family in their thoughts.
According to WBTW On August 30, Fogle appeared in court. A judge denied him bail. He is now held at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center.
