Sabrina Durán Montero, a 24-year-old TikTok influencer with over 500,000 followers, was shot and killed on Oct. 24, 2023. Known as the “Narco Queen” online, her social media persona hid her deep ties to Chile’s drug trafficking world, a connection that ultimately led to her death.
Early Life
Durán grew up in Puente Alto, one of the roughest neighborhoods in Santiago, Chile. She was the youngest of nine kids, raised by her mom after her dad, who struggled with drug addiction, left the family.
According to court records, Durán got involved with drugs at a young age, and by 13, she was already caught up in the drug trade.
At 13, she moved in with a man nearly twice her age and soon got pregnant. The relationship was abusive, and Durán had to drop out of school before finishing the seventh grade.
When her partner was arrested for drug trafficking, she was left to raise their child alone.
Durán later entered another relationship, this time with her partner’s cousin, which pulled her even deeper into the drug world. In 2017, she was arrested after a police chase related to drug trafficking.
Her new partner was killed in the chase, and Durán was taken into custody.
Arrest and Criminal Ties
In March 2022, Chilean police carried out a major raid on Durán’s gang, involving over 100 officers. The operation led to several arrests, including Durán’s, and the police seized drugs, guns, and luxury cars.
Despite being charged with serious crimes, Durán kept posting on TikTok, even from jail.
Her case made headlines again in May 2023 when she was released after serving only one year of her three-year sentence. She had cooperated with prosecutors, providing information in exchange for her early release.
However, this move put her life in danger within the drug world.
The Shooting
On Oct. 23, 2023, Durán posted a series of TikTok videos, mentioning in one that she planned to go to Padre Hurtado for a pedicure the next day.
According to El Desconcierto, rival gang members saw the post and used the information to plan an attack.
The following day, 6 armed men waited for her near a bus stop. Security footage reportedly shows two gunmen walking up to her car and shooting her.
She tried to escape but was chased down and shot again at close range. Durán later died from eight gunshot wounds.
The attackers stole her car, which was found burned in a nearby town. Despite the attack happening near a school and a supermarket, no one else was hurt.
Reactions and Theories
After Durán’s death, reactions on social media were mixed. Some of her fans mourned her loss, while others criticized her for her involvement in the drug trade.
There were online rumors suggesting that her ex-boyfriend may have set her up. Others believed her cooperation with law enforcement led to her murder, as rival gangs may have been seeking revenge.
Durán’s story is a reminder of how dangerous it can be to mix social media fame with organized crime.
While some mourned her death, others saw it as the result of the life she chose.
