Zaliya Shamigulova, 29, was found dead in Mauritius on August 23, 2024. The Russian university lecturer had been on vacation. She disappeared on August 17 after meeting a man through Tinder.
Police discovered Zaliya’s body in a shallow grave in La Marie. It was naked and mutilated.
Surveillance footage showed her entering a blue Toyota before her disappearance.
The car belonged to Puryavirsingh Sundur, a 29-year-old IT engineer.
Her travel companion reported her missing. Strangely, her family in Russia received messages claiming she wanted to disappear. These messages asked them not to contact her.
The post-mortem report reveals multiple stab wounds. Zaliya’s tongue was cut out. These findings indicate a brutal attack.
Sundur is now in custody. He reportedly confessed to the murder during questioning. He claimed to be in love with Zaliya and wanted to marry her.
One report said the suspect “went to take the Russian woman sightseeing on the island, but in a fit of jealous rage, he pulled out a knife and brutally killed his lover before stripping her and burying her body.” according to The Mirror
While investigating Police found blood in Sundur’s car. This evidence led them to the burial site.
He then took investigators to the grave. He may have planned to dismember the body but chose to bury it instead.
Authorities are still searching for missing body parts and Zaliya’s clothing. The investigation continues.
Zaliya was from Chelyabinsk, in Russia’s Ural Mountains. She had been a torchbearer for the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics.
Her social media posts spoke of “catching happiness every day” in Mauritius.
A funeral was held for Zaliya before plans to return her body to Russia.
