Alex Hodgson Doughty, a 32-year-old British tourist, vanished in North Florida in September 2022. His disappearance led to a years-long investigation spanning multiple agencies.
In February 2025, authorities founds his remains in a remote area of Georgia, finally providing answers to his family after more than two years of uncertainty.
Doughty was an adventurous traveler from the United Kingdom. Known for his love of exploring new places, he arrived in Florida in September 2022, intending to experience the local culture.
His trip took him through various locations, but it would ultimately end in tragedy.

The Disappearance
On September 11, 2022, Doughty was last seen at the Bay Street Bar and Grill in Jacksonville, Florida. Surveillance footage captured him leaving alone at approximately 3:30 p.m.
He then entered a taxi.
According to the driver, Doughty requested a ride to Kingsland, Georgia, an area about an hour north of Jacksonville.
He was dropped off in a seemingly random location. From that moment, he disappeared without a trace.
The Investigation

Concern grew when Doughty failed to check in with his family. His mother reported him missing, prompting an investigation involving multiple law enforcement agencies.
Authorities from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, Kingsland Police Department, FBI Jacksonville Division, and Thames Valley Police in the UK coordinated efforts to locate him.
They examined surveillance footage, questioned the taxi driver, and conducted searches in the Kingsland area.
Investigators used forensic analysis, phone tracking, and geolocation data, but results were inconclusive.
The FBI’s Cellular Analysis Survey Team (CAST) attempted to pinpoint his last known location, but the leads ran cold.
For more than two years, no new information emerged.
The Discovery

On February 4, 2025, FBI Jacksonville’s Evidence Response Team located human remains in a secluded wooded area near Kingsland, Georgia.
The site was on private rural land, far from major roads or populated areas.
The remains were sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Medical Examiner’s Office for identification. Days later, authorities confirmed they belonged to Alex Hodgson Doughty.
Investigation Outcome

Officials have not disclosed the cause of death. However, law enforcement stated that no criminal charges are expected.
The circumstances surrounding how Doughty ended up in the remote location remain unknown.
FBI Special Agent in Charge Kristin Rehler acknowledged the tragic outcome. “While we had hoped for a different result, we are grateful to provide some closure to Mr. Doughty’s family.”
His family, devastated by the confirmation, now faces many questions. What happened after he was dropped off? Why did he travel to such an isolated area? These uncertainties remain unresolved.
